openprobableposition text

What is the earliest secure English humiliation witness?

Merriam-Webster publishes the Middle English form humiliacioun, and Harvard’s Chaucer corpus indexes one occurrence. This review did not inspect an underlying manuscript, prove an exact composition year, or establish that no earlier English occurrence survives.

openprobableposition text

What is the earliest secure English humility witness?

Merriam-Webster reports the fourteenth century broadly. The Middle English Dictionary supplies a circa-1390 Chaucer citation with humylitee, but this review did not inspect its underlying manuscript witness, and the located citation does not prove that no earlier English occurrence survives.

resolvedestablishedposition text

Were the underlying manuscript objects directly inspected?

No. This review inspected dictionaries, concordance metadata, and normalized text surfaces, not the manuscripts behind the three poems.

resolvedestablishedposition text

Was the ÁKr fiandanom variant directly read from GKS 3270 4°?

No. ONP’s citation record and linked image index were inspected, but the exact manuscript token was not located and verified on the folio image.

resolvedestablishedposition text

Were the underlying manuscript objects directly inspected?

No. This review inspected the official dictionary article, not the manuscripts behind its gloss and rule-text references.

resolvedestablishedposition text

Were the Behaim examples directly inspected in a manuscript?

No. They are located reports in DWB. Browser permissions blocked the available digitized editions during this review, so neither a manuscript nor printed edition object is promoted as directly inspected.

resolvedestablishedposition text

Is the c.1150-1200 Hatr token the first known use?

Not established. The inspected object proves a token in that codex; neither ONP nor the facsimile inspection licenses a global earliest-surviving-use claim.

resolvedestablishedposition text

Are the 901–1000 Wachtendonck Psalms forms directly inspected tenth-century manuscript tokens?

No. ONW labels the records with much later copy dates, including 1595–1605 and circa 1598. This review inspected the lexical corpus record, not an original tenth-century object.

SEARCH IS DISCOVERY, NOT PROOF

EVERY RESULT OPENS A PERMANENT EVIDENCE RECORD.

Matching text only locates a record. It does not raise confidence, settle a dispute, establish cognacy, or turn a source report into direct inspection. Follow the result into its citations and editorial limits.
