Unnumbered source etymology
Original entry ↗A sweet. · A sweet consisting of a disc of jelly, usually aniseed-flavoured, covered in sprinkles.
From Yorkshire dialect of unclear origin, possibly related to dialectal term spice (“sweets”). More specific sense comes from the Yorkshire-based sweet company Bassett's, who used the term to describe one component of their liquorice allsorts mixture.
