Unnumbered source etymology
Original entry ↗The fourth largest city in Kosovo, and the seat of its eponymous municipality and district. · A district of Kosovo. · A municipality of Kosovo.
Borrowed from Albanian Peja, definite nominative of Pejë. Ultimately from Serbo-Croatian peć (“furnace”), which probably refers to the hermitaries in the caves of nearby Rugova Canyon formerly inhabited by Serbian Orthodox monks.
