Unnumbered source etymology
Original entry ↗Denotes an aesthetically-oriented genre of speculative fiction based on the noun to which it is suffixed, usually involving ahistorical or anachronistic technology and its effects on society.
First used when coining cyberpunk or as a back-formation to coin steampunk. Probably from the influence of the punk subculture on these genres.
